Something New and Something Old

Eli has really been interested in spoons lately. I have been letting him play with them when he is done eating but I hadn't let him try to feed himself. Tonight at dinner he was pretty much demanding to feed himself so I thought why not let him try. He did pretty good. I had to help him get some on his spoon and then he would feed himself. He had a bit of a tantrum in the middle of dinner because he thought I was taking the spoon away when I would try to help him get food on it, but that passed and he loved it. He even had to eat his fruit on a spoon when he normally picks it up with his fingers. I can't believe how big he is getting and how independent he is getting!

He loved it!

When I was pregnant with Eli I was constantly buying clothes for him. I constantly looked for sales and would pick up a few things each month. Well since we have all of Eli's clothes and my sister is giving us all her boy clothes from her little boy who was born last summer I have only gotten a little brother onsie for this little one. I told Mike that this little boy needs to have his very own coming home from the hospital outfit. Today I looked online and found a very cute outfit from T*he C*hildren's P*lace and it was onsale. So tonight we went to look at the store to see if it was there so we wouldn't have to pay shipping and they had it!!!! I was so excited we got a cute little romper and matching hat for $8. I can't wait to see my little baby boy in it! Now we have the outfit, we just need a name! Any suggestions?

Tonight was the NBA draft so I decided to put Eli in a Pacers outfit. Unfortunately we only have one and it is a bit small! Eli wore this outfit last year for the draft when he was 5 months and he wore it again tonight at almost 17 months old. It is 12 months size, but these kind of sports outfits always run small. Hopefully next year the new baby will be able to wear it and it will fit perfectly!

Poor Eli

Since last Thursday Eli hasn't been sleeping well. I knew this could mean 2 different things. He is either getting teeth or he is getting sick. I couldn't see any teeth coming in and at this point Eli has too many teeth for me to stick my finger in his mouth and check in the back. So it became a waiting game. Over the weekend his nose started running, but it was clear. That made me think it was teeth. So we just kept waiting and watching for more signs. Monday he got a low grade fever of 99.8 so I was really thinking it was teeth. As the day went on his fever got worse and by 5:00 it was almost 101 so I started thinking it was more than teeth. Also on Monday I noticed that he was losing his appetite. He even threw his fruit on the floor and he always eats his fruit. I gave Eli some motrin before bed on Monday and he went to sleep ok at 8. He woke up again at 10:00 and I was able to rock him and calm him down and he went back to sleep. He woke up again at 2:30 and his entire body burning up. He had a fever of 102 so I gave him some more motrin and rocked him until he was almost back alseep. I laid him down and he started crying. He does this sometimes so I decided to see if he would cry himself back to sleep. It only took a minute for me to realize he wasn't going to sleep. I picked him back up but I couldn't get him to calm down. He just kept crying and then he started gagging. I got him into the bathroom and held him over the toliet while he got sick. It was very sad. He just wanted to hug and hold me and didn't understand why I wasn't picking him up. After that I got him cleaned up and decided to take him downstairs and rock him. I had planned on just letting him sleep in my arms in case he needed to get sick again. I held a cold towel to his head and neck to help him cool down and took off his jammies and let him rest in just his diaper. I turned on Yo Gabba Gabba for him and figured it wouldn't take long for him to fall asleep. Well after 3 episodes of YGG where he was pointing, laughing, and getting excited I decided he was probably ok to go back to his bed. So at 4:00 I laid him back down and he went right back to sleep. I laid awake for the next hour so I could listen and make sure he was ok. I then got up at 6:00 to call the families of the kids I watch to let them know I couldn't watch them that day.
I got Eli into the Dr on Tuesday morning to check and see if he had an ear infection because he had been pulling at his right ear and that usually means he has an ear infection. Luckly he doesn't have an ear infection just a yucky virus. The Dr said the fever could last up to 72 hours so just to watch him the next few days and to continue the motrin.
I can already tell he is feeling better. He still doesn't have much of an appetite and he seems to want mommy to hold him all day, but today his fever was down to 99.9. Last night we had a hard time getting him to sleep. I was afraid to let him cry for too long, I didn't want him to cry so hard he made himself sick again. We thought we got him to sleep around 9:00, but he was up a little before 10:00. It then took me until 11:30 to get him back to sleep but thankfully he slept until 7:30 after that.
It is no fun having a sick little one. I am very glad he is feeling better, now I am just a little tired.
This picture is from Friday morning. He woke up crying at 5:00, I got him calmed down and back into bed by 5:30 and then he was up for good at 6:00. By 8:00 this is how he was. That made for a tired mommy for the day!

If Eli isn't being held by mommy this is where he would like to be!

Happy Father's Day

We have had a wonderful Father's Day weekend. Yesterday my dad came to visit for the afternoon and today we went over to Mike's parents for a pool party with his dad's side of the family. Eli loves to spend time with both of his Grandpas so he had a blast. Mike put his money from his graduation with his Father's Day gift and got a new Iphone and had it delivered on Friday so he had a great weekend playing with is new toy. I must say it is pretty cool. I also got a new phone and have had phone playing with it.

Fun Stuff!

Let's start with the good news. I found out yesterday that I passed the 3 hour glucose test! That means I don't have gestational diabetes this time! I was so sure that I had it since I had it when I was pregnant with Eli and I failed the 1 hour test. I am very excited that I don't have to worry about this time. I am still going to try and eat better though. I have also started walking in the evenings. I put Eli to bed at 8:00 and then my sister Jackie comes over and we take the dogs for a 45 minute walk. Now Reggie and Maggie know when Eli goes to bed and I put my shoes on it is time for a walk and they get so excited.
Today is my neice Lily's 3rd birthday so Sunday we went to her birthday party! I think our Yo Gabba Gabba gift was a hit. She had to line them up on the table to eat her cake and ice cream!

This is Eli's new game, "where's the sippy", unfortunately we end up doing baths or mini baths (baby wipes) every night!

Eli talking on his cell phone, or as he calls it his 'Lo'!

Today I took Eli and Kennedy for a walk around our neighborhood in Eli's wagon. It was so much fun. As long as the weather is nice I am going to try and do this each morning!

They had a blast. They talked and laughed back and forth the entire time. This is Eli giving Kennedy a high five!

Eli's Big Boy Shoes

I have been looking for new shoes for Eli for a few weeks now but I refuse to spend $40 on shoes that he will out grow in a few months. Up until now we have always been able to find shoes for around $10 or less. But this time I just wasn't having any luck. We even went to the mall this past Sunday and looked in each store that had shoes but didn't have any luck. I had checked Meijer and Target but didn't find anything in his size. They had cute shoes that weren't too expensive just not in a size 5. This morning I decided to try the Super Target near us and I found 2 pairs of shoes that I liked in Eli's size!!! One was $12 and the other was $7!!! 2 pairs of shoes under $20!!!!

He thought the string in between the shoes was pretty fun!

Last Thursday I had my 1 hour Glucose test to test for Gestational Diabetes. Yesterday I found out that I did not pass and have to go in this Friday for the dreaded 3 hour test. I am not at all surprised since I had GD with Eli but I was just hoping I wouldn't have to deal with it this time around. So for now I am just going to assume that I have it again and if the test comes back and I don't have it I will be pleasantly surprised! :-) But on the bright side I was instructed by the nurse that I need to eat 1 candy bar each day for 3 days before the 3 hour test. At least I get to eat candy, Doctor's orders!

First Swim of the Year!

On Sunday we went over to Mike's parents house to celebrate him getting his Masters Degree. I am so proud of him, what an accomplishment! It was such a great day. We had a cookout and got to go for a swim. I have been anxiously waiting to take Eli for a swim. When we took him last year he just kind of sat there, of course he was only 5-7 months old then. I think he really enjoyed it this year. He was kicking his legs and splashing around. Of course his favorite part was the basketball for the pool. I can't wait to take him again. :-)

He was a little nervous at first

It didn't take long until he was ready to play

He didn't want to let go of this ball

We all had a great day!

Flash back to his first swim of 2008!
